| The U.S.
government estimates that in this country, nearly one in every 10
children under the age of six has elevated blood lead levels. The
leading cause of lead poisoning—which can lead to learning disabilities,
behavioral problems, seizures and even death—is exposure to lead-based
paint and lead-containing dust, a common contaminant in housing units
built before 1980. With
increasing awareness of the dangers lead poses to our children, the U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has incrementally
increased the number of safeguards in place to prevent lead poisoning in
federally funded housing.
AMI Environmental has kept up with
these changes and continues to be at the forefront of lead-based paint
issues, providing potentially life-saving services to housing
authorities seeking to remove the hazardous material from their
dwellings.
Using the latest technologies—including
X-ray fluorescence (XRF) testing—AMI’s EPA-licensed lead-based paint
inspectors and risk assessors are working to protect the health of
children across the heartland, one home at a time.
